Chicago 2024 Host Committee Announces “Chicago Civic Action Week” With Chicago Cares

Winning artwork will be displayed on convention memorabilia and at official events

Chicago, IL Today, the Chicago 2024 Host Committee announced the opening of its “Welcome to Chicago” art competition. The competition will run until June 10, 2024 at 5:00 p.m. and invites any currently enrolled full-time student at any public or private high school in the Chicago metropolitan area to submit original artwork inspired by the prompt “Welcome to Chicago.” Graduating seniors are also eligible to enter.

Students will be asked to submit a short paragraph with their artwork and are encouraged to consider the following questions when describing their original piece: What or who makes Chicago unique? How would you capture the essence of Chicago? Certain colors, smells, tastes, places? How do you see yourself in the city?

The competition follows the launch of the Host Committee’s Youth Advisory Council that was announced last week to help increase youth participation in the Democratic National Convention.

“We are thrilled to announce the unveiling of the Host Committee’s “Welcome to Chicago” art competition to give Chicago area students an opportunity to be a part of history,” said Senior Advisor for the Chicago 2024 Host Committee Keiana Barrett. “Chicago is home to many talented youth artists and we look forward to highlighting their work on signature convention memorabilia and within the official convention events this August.”

All submitted artwork will be reviewed by a panel of judges. The winning design will be featured on commemorative memorabilia for the 2024 Democratic National Convention. The winner will also receive two credentials for one day of the convention and a $200 Visa gift card. Finalists will have their artwork featured digitally at official convention events and receive a $100 Visa gift card.

Artwork must be two-dimensional and created by hand without the use of AI or digital image generation. The art can be presented in any medium that can be translated to digital files. Video will not be accepted. Full details regarding submission requirements can be found on the Host Committee’s website.

All entries must be original in concept, design, and execution and may not violate any U.S. copyright laws. Any entry that has been copied from an existing photo or image (including a painting, graphic, or advertisement) that was created by someone other than the student is a violation of the competition rules and will not be accepted. Entries may not contain any political or partisan content, references to any political party or candidate, or hateful, religious, discriminatory, or sexually explicit language or imagery.

Artwork must be submitted in either .jpg or .png formats to design@chicago2024.com. The uploaded image must be 300dpi. Entries are limited to one piece of art per student and must include the Student Information Release Form with signatures from the student and parent or guardian.
