Chicago 2024 Host Committee Launches Official DNC Volunteer Application

Chicago, IL – Today, the Chicago 2024 Host Committee launched the official DNC volunteer application, a crucial milestone in the recruitment of 12,000+ volunteers for the upcoming Democratic National Convention. All interested volunteers must register and complete the application now available on the Host Committee’s website. Volunteers must be at least 16 years of age or older, and able to pass a background check required by the United States Secret Service to participate.

“There has been a tremendous amount of excitement around this convention and we are thrilled to officially launch our volunteer application today for Chicagoans looking to get involved,” said Christy George, Host Committee Executive Director. “Our volunteers will play a major role in helping us show off the best of what our city has to offer, and are excited to staff this convention with folks that reflect the true diversity of Chicago!”

“Today is an exciting moment in our work to recruit the 12,000 volunteers needed to successfully host the convention in August,” said Mo Green, Host Committee Senior Director of Civic and Community Engagement. “We encourage all of those interested in playing a part in this extraordinary moment for our city and our state to complete an application and get connected to the wide array of opportunities available. Together, we’ll host the most diverse, sustainable, and accessible convention in history.”

There will be a broad range of volunteer responsibilities, and the time commitment will vary depending on the needs of each role. Volunteer contributions include, but are not limited to, greeting guests, giving directions, assisting with event check-in, serving as ushers, providing transportation for credentialed guests and dignitaries, and much more. Individuals who pass a background check and initial screening can access a detailed list of volunteer roles and shifts before the convention.

Once volunteers have cleared their background check, they will be granted access to sign up for available shifts this summer. They will then complete a training and get connected to their volunteer leader.

In January, the Host Committee launched its Neighborhood Ambassadors program to assist with community engagement and volunteer recruitment. Neighborhood Ambassadors were selected from each of Chicago’s 77 community areas and several surrounding suburbs, and are responsible for recruiting volunteers, as well as hosting neighborhood events and serving as the liaison between their communities and convention leadership.
