Chicago 2024 Host Committee and Democratic National Convention Committee Announce Request for Proposals for Security Services
Chicago, IL – Today, the Chicago 2024 Host Committee and the Democratic National Convention Committee (DNCC) released a new request for proposals (RFP) for security services for the upcoming Democratic National Convention. Vendors may submit bids to provide venue security services at the United Center and McCormick Place during convention week, as well as the option to provide security drivers. Last week, the Host Committee and DNCC held a Security Outreach Summit that welcomed registration from more than 100 prospective vendors.
The Host Committee and DNCC are seeking comprehensive proposals from qualified individuals or companies to provide security personnel to assist in the maintenance of secure perimeters around the United Center and McCormick Place to ensure the safety of approximately 50,000 Convention participants, including state delegations, media, Democratic-allied groups, and other organizations and invited guests.
The security service providers’ scope of work encompasses routine security services for the Democratic National Convention, including perimeter control, access management at entry points, credential screening, and security drivers. The RFP can be found on the Host Committee’s website, www.chicago2024.com.
Submissions of intents to bid are due Thursday, April 25. Submissions of final bids are due by 5 p.m. on May 8. Each interested vendor must also create a profile of their company for the Democratic National Convention Vendor Directory available at www.chicago2024.com/vendors.
“Chicago has a long and successful track record of hosting safe large-scale events, and our security service providers will play a crucial role in ensuring the same is true for the 2024 DNC,” said Christy George, Host Committee Executive Director. “This RFP will help us identify experienced vendors and individuals to create a safe and secure environment for our state delegations, members of the media, all of our guests, and the public.”
“The safety and security of convention delegates, guests, and the public is a top priority for our entire convention team,” said Alex Hornbrook, DNCC Executive Director. “I’m confident that our contracted security service providers will work in tandem with our federal and local public safety partners to keep our convention secure so we can focus on building the stage for President Biden, Vice President Harris, and Democrats to bring our story to the American people.”
The Host Committee and DNCC anticipate that decision announcements, which may be a notice of intent to award the contract or a notice that no contract will be awarded based on this RFP process, will be issued by May 15, 2024.
As with previous RFPs, the Host Committee and DNCC will evaluate bids based on numerous criteria, including but not limited to: experience, reliability, costs, relationships to Chicago and the surrounding region, participation of union labor, women, minorities, LGBTQ+ individuals, veterans, and persons with disabilities.
Political conventions, including the 2024 DNC, are designated as National Security Special Events, meaning the United States Secret Service is tasked with coordinating a whole of government approach to all aspects of safety and security for attendees, residents and visitors.
