Chicago Host Committee and Democratic National Convention Committee Seek Requests for Proposal for Sustainability Management And Events Programming
Chicago, IL – The Chicago Host Committee and the 2024 Democratic National Convention Committee (DNCC) today released a first of its kind request for proposal (RFP) for Sustainability Management and Events Programming, seeking industry experts on sustainability and greening strategies for the 2024 Democratic National Convention.
The RFP can be found on the Host Committee website, www.chicago2024.com. Submission of an intent to bid is due Monday, November 27, 2023, and submission of bids are due by 5:00 p.m. Central Time on Tuesday, December 5, 2023. Interested applicants must submit an intent to bid prior to submitting a finalized bid for consideration.
The Host Committee and DNCC are committed to reducing the environmental impact of the Convention, while also leaving a positive legacy and strategies behind for future large-scale events held within Chicago and across the country.
The sustainability management and programming team will develop, improve, and implement sustainability and greening strategies at all Convention venues, as well as provide information and best practices for local businesses.
“For the first time in Convention history we are releasing an RFP for sustainability services––underscoring our commitment to making this one of the most environmentally friendly Conventions ever,” said Host Committee Executive Director Christy George. “We hope to develop new sustainability guidelines for large-scale events that can be leveraged by the city and local businesses for years to come.”

The sustainability management and programming team will identify key impact areas for sustainability based on current industry best practices and recommendations. They will establish a comprehensive waste diversion program, create community and business outreach strategies, and work with primary and ancillary Convention venues to identify existing sustainability programs and areas for development. The management team will also work with Convention vendors to ensure sustainability practices are built into all plans and create a carbon footprint data tracking system.
As with previous RFPs, the Host Committee and DNCC will evaluate bids based on numerous criteria, including but not limited to: experience, reliability, costs, relationships to Chicago and the surrounding region, participation of union labor, women, minorities, veterans, and persons with disabilities.
